There’s something poetic about going to see a lecture by Stephen Batchelor in NYC on John Lennon’s birthday. It’s a great piece of synchronicity.
As I mention on the Instant Dharma audio site at Live365, my earliest exposure to Taoist/Zen ideas probably came from music, specifically The Beatles. Lennon’s song Rain was one of the first songs to make me look at the world a little differently. His solo song Mind Games is still one of the most stirring things I can listen to.
Batchelor’s Buddhism Without Beliefs — which I stumbled upon years ago in a favorite but now defunct bookstore — is the book that made Buddhism a possibility for me, another signpost if you will on a path that began with those Lennon songs.
The weather for tomorrow looks like rain.
I don’t mind.
