Even though I’m trying to get to an American Zen, there are two British philosopher/authors who have had an enormous impact on my Zen path. One is the aforementioned Stephen Batchelor. The other is the late Alan Watts.
Aside from picking up on Buddhist and Taoist ideas in the music to which I was listening, my earliest direct exposure to those ideas probably came from hearing Alan Watts lectures on WFMU.
