Asher Brown, a 13-year-old boy living in Texas, killed himself after being relentlessly bullied at school for being small, not wearing cool-enough clothes, and for being gay. Further along in the report, we learn he was also bullied for being Buddhist. His devastated parents agreed to talk to Anderson Cooper on CNN about the tragedy. The poor mother could barely hold it together.
What is most moving about the interview, beyond the tragedy of a young boy feeling helpless to the point of suicide, is how the parents dealt with their son’s coming to terms with his sexual orientation and their unconditional love for him.
